Horizontal Screw Conveyor

Horizontal screw conveyor is the most widely used type of screw conveyor. Used to convey bulk materials from one part of a process to another, horizontal screw conveyors are available in a wide range of sizes, lengths, configurations and materials of construction.

Screw conveyor is used in thousands of industrial applications every day for efficiently conveying a variety of bulk materials. A screw conveyor’s main function is to transfer bulk materials from one process to another. Screw conveyors are very cost-effective and require minimal maintenance to operate.

The recommended location for the drive unit is on the discharge end of a screw conveyor which pulls the bulk material to the drive end. With this arrangement, each screw section is put in tension as the bulk material is conveyed toward the discharge of a screw conveyor, reducing wear and fatigue on the conveyor components.

Primary considerations for the selection of a screw conveyor are:

1. Type and condition of the bulk material to be conveyed including maximum particle size and specific bulk density

2. Capacity or feed rate of bulk material to be conveyed expressed in pounds per hour, tons per hour, or cubic feet per hour

3. Required distance and incline the bulk material is to be conveyed

4. Design conditions such as materials of construction, inlet feed conditions and operating temperature

Screw conveyor Structure

The structure of the screw conveyor, mainly by the drive device, discharge hole, rotating screw axis, bearings, housing and feeding port, etc. Usually screw conveyor has the bearing on the material movement terminal side, it can withstand the material to spiral axial force of the blade. When the conveyor is longer than the fuselage, it should be added the middle hanging bearing.
